Swift Setwing Female - Dythemis velox - Williamson County, Texas, USA June 7, 2006
Like the young female Checkered Setwing I photographed a few days ago, this individual was perched on a dead twig--this time of a buttonbush in our horse lot. This image shows the small dark spots near the wing-base, the clear wings (through which the thorax markings are clearly visible), the red-brown "upper" eye color and blue-gray "lower" eye color, the white face (will darken later) and black legs. The body position is oblique to the perch, as is common with setwings--when the perch is angled from vertical, the body is then horizontal, but here, on a horizontal perch, the body is angled downward.
