Milo, Piscataquis County, Maine, USA

Size: 4 inches wide
Large moth with gorgeous markings seen on the pavement at a gas station. I relocated it temporarily on some greenery but it wasn't looking well. The wings had sustained some damage.

Moved from Columbia Silkmoth.

Hyalophora columbia (7768) Columbia Silkmoth
This moth is Hyalophora columbia. The "Columbia Silkmoth", not the "Brown spotted moth. Brown spotted moth doesn't even make sense. the spots are not brown, more like an ivory color.

Giant silkworm Moth. Not sure EXACTLY which kind. But, that is the family for sure.

Thanks
Hi Julie
My taxonomy is so rusty!
Thanks for the silkworm common name, it would be great to have the complete reference ie: order/class/genus/sp.

Fantastic!
Thanks, this was my first id request submission to bugguide, so I appreciate the thorough reference. You folks are quite good, now if you can only forgive my terrible photography.
