Green Bee - male

Green Bee - Male
Springfield, Virginia, USA
August 7, 2004
A tiny metallic green bee, approx. less than one centimeter long. Not much hair. Pretty sure it belongs to family Halictidae, but don't know what genus or species. Any help in identifying is appreciated.

likely Augochlora pura
if they tegulae are really dark as they appear (usually paler in Augochlorella, metallic in Augochloropsis). The overall color is most consistent with Augochlora. Note also the truncate marginal cell.

Owch
I just got bitten/stung by one. Hurts like hell.

Halictidae
You have the family right, Richard, but beyond that you need a good key and a microscope:-) It is one of these three: Augochlorella, Augochlora, or Augochloropsis. Species level ID is probably a nightmare:-) Oh, this is a male. Note long antennae.
