Spinning The Stabilimentum - Argiope aurantia - female

Spinning The Stabilimentum - Argiope aurantia - Female
Norfork, Baxter County, Arkansas, USA
August 17, 2011
At the completion of re-spinning its orb web, this Garden Spider (Argiope aurantia) finishes it off by spinning a zig-zag pattern in the center. The whole process of making the stabilimentum took only five minutes, but was done very methodically with no wasted motions. The spider completed the job upside down in the center of the web where it will spend the rest of its day.
