Mydas tibialis
In an email to me, B. C. Kondratieff confirmed "Mydas tibialis is correct, a beautiful large species."

Mydas fly
Nice shot of the mydas fly, Mydas tibialis. They mimic the large sphecid wasp, Sphex nudus, near as I can tell.
