Dytiscidae: Graphoderus? - Graphoderus occidentalis

Size: Length ~ 1 cm
This specimen may belong in the genus Graphoderus. It seems to resemble this BG image of another specimen from western North Dakota (see image below), but I am not certain.



I'm guessing this individual is host to an external parasite? If so, are these some sort of aquatic mite? Thanks for looking! ;-)

Genus is correct
this is G. occidentalis; the hitchhikers don't look like mites in the enlarged pic..probably some sort of freshwater crustacean (copepod?)
