Green Sweat Bee on Echinacea Laevigata - Agapostemon

Green Sweat Bee on Echinacea Laevigata - Agapostemon
Spartanburg County, South Carolina, USA
August 18, 2011
Size: 1-2 cm
This bee seemed to be holding on to a new upturned petal of a Smooth Coneflower and vibrating its abdomen. Don't know why. Down might be to the right, I think the petal was almost vertical. It kept alternately cleaning itself and vibrating it's abdomen for several minutes before flying away. This was taken in full sun, but with a lot of extension and enough flash to make the background black. Sorry about the strong highlight on the eye, it kind of obscures the cool patterns.
