Grasshopper - Dissosteira pictipennis - Female
Hidden Lakes Park, Martinez, Contra Costa County, California, USA
August 26, 2011
Size: ~30mm
Wings showed rusty red as it flew.

California Rose-winged Grasshopper
Whenever I follow one of these, especially females (which this one is), they fly into a clump of vegetation (usually thick dried grass), and they are impossible to photograph. Nice capture.

Moved from ID Request.
