I believe so
Tom I just posted one today of what looks like a younger version of yours. http://bugguide.net/node/view/57168

took the picture on the same day you did. (6/10/06)

Only a few states away from ya.

Machimus
Mike, thanks for the second opinion. It looks like the robber flies are coming out now. Yesterday, I found 4 other different species.

Mach
I think this is a Mach Tom or something in a close genus. It is pretty distinctive with those legs and may be identifiable to a northeasterner like Mike Thomas. I will have him look.

Thanks Herschel
That would be great to get an ID for this and some others I'm posting now. This weekend I participated in a couple bioblitz's and am now trying to determine the species I saw.

Robber
Mike Thomas thinks this is Neoitamus flavofemoratus. Genitalia look odd but it may be because they are folded down onto the leaf.

name missing?
I see that the Fly Nomenclator lists no robber fly with a specific epithet of flavofemoratus. Is that an oversight? Or is there another name for this species?

Neoitamus flavofemoratus
Herschel, thanks for making the contact with Mike Thomas, and getting a species ID.
