big caterpillar - Spilosoma virginica

Size: roughly inch and a half.
Hopefully someone can ID this for me.
The closest thing in my book is a salt marsh caterpillar.
But on this guy I couldn't see a discernible head.
Also it was in my garden on some Basil, nowhere near a salt marsh.

Spilosoma virginica
They're common where you and I are. We don't have Saltmarsh moths - Most bug books are East Coast based.
