Fly? - Atomosia

Fly? - Atomosia
Wichita, Kansas, USA
June 11, 2006
Size: 10-11mm
I've seen a lot of these in the past few days. Seems to be a fly (or maybe not) with shiny, hairless abdomen. Thanks for your help.

Robber fly
Atomosia puella or glabrata. Big genus and tiny flies. They love homes and flat upright surfaces. Currently at any given time I have about 100 living on my back patio. I am convinced they lay eggs in my wife's potted plants and we have carried generations with us from house to house.

Not Robber Fly
judging from apex.

Thank you...
...for the information. You're so right about flat surfaces. I find them clinging to the siding on my house. I like them, I'm glad to have an ID. I appreciate your help.
