Mud/Clay on Beetle's Thorax?
Hello Randy, I'm filming one of these beetles today and I'm currently trying to find out any kind of info about the sexual characters. Do you know anything that might help me? Most of the BugGuide posts are about 11mm or 12mm in length, I think. Mine is 14mm, but I'm not sure if that matters to the sexes or the age, health, distribution, etc. I will try to get some good close ups of the both ends anyway. Thanks for posting this guy and yes, I think that yours has some mud, clay or some other type of brown, dirty contamination on the thorax. Please leave us a comment or send me an email. OK?

Hi Bob,
Wish I could help with information but I'm just a moth-er that happened to shoot a beetle. Good luck!

Thanks
Randy, that is OK and if I find out anything, I will try to remember to let you know it somehow. Guess what, I have another question about your orange & grey Frass-shooters! I'm going over my video footage of an Angel Lichen Moth. No, I didn't get enough of it's parts on film to determine the sex, but anyway, it is going to be hard to outdo your great images and I'm glad that you posted them! Is there an obvious difference, of abdomen shape, color or other characters to look for, in the future? Thanks
