Long-legged Fly? - Condylostylus longicornis

Long-legged Fly? - Condylostylus longicornis
Auburn, Alabama, USA
August 7, 2004
This fly was approximately 1/8" in length. Given the long legs and bright metallic green color, I believe this fly is of the Condylostylus genus. I would, however, like a confirmation, and can anyone name the species?

Moved
Moved from Condylostylus.

Moved
Moved from Sciapodinae.

Longlegged fly
Very lovely portrait, and yes it is a longlegged fly. Beyond that, you must be kidding:-) There are at least three or four GENERA in North America that feature metallic species.

Long-legged fly
As always Eric, thanks for your comments. As a novice trying to ramp up a bit on the learning curve, just didn't realize there are so many genera.....Thanks again.

Could be Condylostylus...
The green colour is certainly no giveaway for any dolichopodid. It is not just some genera that are metallic green, most species of this family are! The wing venation tells me this fly belongs to the subfamily Sciapodinae and Condylostylus belongs to that subfamily. A specialist may tell you if it is indeed Condylostylus.

Cheers,

Paul

Could be Condylostylus...
Thanks Paul for your in-depth comments. From what I have read in my texts, I would tend to agree with you that this is indeed a Condylostylus.

Thank you for identifying it
I photographed a fly just like this one, with the same coloring, shape and wing venation. Lew, thanks for posting a picture of it here. Also my thanks goes to both of you and Paul for confirming that the fly is a Condylostylus.
