Arizona giant centipede - Scolopendra heros

Size: very big
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum website, as well as one photo in the Bugguide, suggest this is Scolopendra heros. However, it differs from examples of that species from other states in having the inverse coloration in the body and head. Is this really just geographical variation? If so, "Giant Redheaded Centipede" is hardly a helpful English name. The Desert Museum's name is Giant Desert Centipede, also not very useful if it occurs in places like Arkansas. How about "Inversible Giant Centipede?"

for this subspecies I guess. Try googling the subspecies. Make sure to try the "image" google. It does come up with some comparison shots.
