Dog day cicada of some kind - Neotibicen canicularis

Dog day cicada of some kind - Neotibicen canicularis
Beach Park, Lake County, Illinois, USA
September 6, 2011
Size: Approx 1.5 in
I found this neat looking cicada while walking along the trails at Illinois State Beach Park (North). At first I thought it might have been dead, but on closer inspection it still had some signs of life. But it was almost completely torpid and didn't seem too upset by handling, so it may have been at the end of its lifespan. I put it in the grass after examining it so nobody would step on it.
