Trichiotinus assimilis

Trichiotinus assimilis
Belgrade, Kennebec County, Maine, USA
June 15, 2001
Size: 11 mm
Identified by Phil Harpootlian. I think this is a fairly distinctive northern species. According to Howden, the longitudinal white stripes can be diagnostic although not all specimens have this. This beetle very commonly occurs in fields behind our house on daisy flowers with other colorful beetles such as Trichodes nutalli and Lepturobosca (Cosmosalia) chrysocoma.
