Neoscona? - Neoscona crucifera - female

Neoscona? - Neoscona crucifera - Female
Champaign, Champaign County, Illinois, USA
October 7, 2010
Size: 2 cm
I'm trying to learn out how to distinguish Araneus and Neoscona. Wondering what people thought of this one. She stayed in the same tree for several days, so I got a few shots over about a week span, but I don't think any turned out fantastic (I was new to my camera). What do I look for to distinguish the two genuses?

Moved from ID Request.

We would agree with your initial thought - Neoscona
and looks to be N. crucifera

Spider
Looks like the photo of my spider:
Spider - Eriophora ravilla

I could be way off on it bein
I could be way off on it being one of those two genuses (I'm new to ID'ing), but I discounted Eriphora because it appeared to be more of a southern genus.

Spider
I am new also, so lets wait on an expert.
