Syrphid Fly - Chalcosyrphus piger - Male
Meadows 1/2 mile north of Westwood - Elevation 5150', Lassen County, California, USA
June 21, 2010
Size: Nose to wingtip - 14mm
I believe this to be a genus Chalcosyrphus syrphid fly based on similarity to the following specimen, and its location about 75 miles south of here:

ID for this specimen to species Chalcosyrphus piger was confirmed by BOLD Systems via DNA. DNA for this specimen is a solid 99%+ match with 15+ specimens of this species.
