Erik J. van Nieukerken says: "My research (with DNA barcodes) has shown that ostryaefoliella is not polyphagous as Wilkinson et al. claim, thus the correct name of the hickory miner is probably S. caryaefoliella. (but there is at least one more unnamed species on Carya) and ostryaefoliella only occurs on Ostrya." Since S. caryaefoliella has not yet been officially removed from synonymy with S. ostryaefoliella, I think this is the best placement for now.
