forewing length
Jim, the forewing length from wing base to apex (tip) is the best measurement for moths. Many guides use wingspan, which is not as accurate because the wing placement when pinning can vary. Nice specimen!
Thanks

Thank you Maury...
... for the forewing length advice. I appreciate this tip, especially early on, since I have many nice pinned moth images yet to go. It will be easy to go back and add just forewing lengths for previously posted pinned moth images. Almost all my original moth photos, live and pinned, were photographed next to a small metric ruler. Within Photshop Elements I can easily highlight just the ruler and rotate it to any angle, and move it to any position on the specimen to get fairly accurate measurements, including base to apex on these pinned moth specimens. : )
