Rodent Bot

Rodent Bot
Vero Beach, Indian River County, Florida, USA
June 9, 2006
Size: 2.4cm
From a dead rat. Unfortunately I got these after they were dead, otherwise I would have set them up to pupate.
Of six specimens, size ranged from 1.7-3.1cm.
I will try to ID these to species after some preservative works into them.
Very likely genus Cuterebra, and also likely the reason the rat died (see Mullen and Durden(1).

I hope you washed your hands
I hope you washed your hands afterwards, that is both really gross and really cool.
