Homopteran? - Elasmucha lateralis

Homopteran? - Elasmucha lateralis
South Mountains State Park, Burke County, North Carolina, USA
June 3, 2005

Moved
Moved from Shield Bugs.

Elasmucha lateralis?
It looks like a dark specimen of this species. Only 2 species of Acanthosomatidae are known from the state, according to NCSU's entomology page:
Elasmucha lateralis
Elasmostethus cruciatus

Since it is not Elasmostethus, I would consider it Elasmucha.

Acanthosomatidae.
This is one of the 'shield bugs' in the family Acanthosomatidae. The order is Hemiptera, which now includes the old "Homoptera."
