Blue Mud Dauber - Chalybion californicum

Blue Mud Dauber - Chalybion californicum
On the Glacial Drumlin State Trail, at the edge of Cottage Grove, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
June 15, 2006
Looking for verification that this is a blue mud dauber. It was on a fence next to a chemical plant on the Glacial Drumlin State Trail, at the edge of the city of Cottage Grove. The photo was taken at about 2:00 p.m.

Mud Dauber
We have a screened porch in our backyard and over the past 3 days we've had 4, what we believe to be "blue mud daubers", get in somehow. Are they dangerous? We try and close up any gaps in our porch, how do you suppose they keep getting in? Where should we look for a nest?

I Love Blue Mud Daubers!
By far my favorite-looking bug of them all. No other bug has such a striking metallic blue color. We had a few of them hanging around the house when I lived in Grand Junction, Colorado. But I did some digging and found out that they are a bad indicator of black widow spider infestation because that is their favorite food. Our house was, of course, full of black widows.

Blue Dauber
yes, that's definitely a blue dauber. We get those in our storage area at work all the time. The nests are filled with larva and little paralyzed spiders, black widows mostly. They are able to sting but are very reluctant unless you really squeeze them or harm them.

Are these Species Aggressive to Humans
I would like to know if these Daubers are Aggressive to humans and are they common in southern Onatrio Canada I think I have a nest cas I went outside to my garden and I was swarmed but not stung they kept on running into me but not stining is this normal or sould i call someone!!??

blue
they are male mud daubers looking for females. dont worry... they cant sting.

blue mud daubers
Yes they can sting and will!!!!!! I am deadly allergic to this species. I live in oklahoma. I have been stung 4 times now over a period of about 10 years. This last time it has taken me over a week of returned visits to my doctor to re-coop, after a 6 hour ER visit. Please dont let people think these wasps can't be dangerous or deadly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmm
Is this true for all mud daubers?
