Size: ~15mm

We found a couple of these handsome fellas sitting on a leaf in the sun on our last walk. We're thinking it looks a lot like Neopyrochroa but.....

Neopyrochroa flabellata (Fabricius)

Not only are they "handsome fellas" ... they really ARE fellas - you can see the ridge of the male cranial pit apparatus dorsally, between the eyes.

your link is to the Dogbane beetle from your work on the previous image. You may want to edit the link. Thanks for the ID. How can you tell which of the species it is? Could it be related to our earlier Pyrochroid larva here?

I've fixed the link. I say this one is flabellata because it does not have stand-out femurs. Its legs are entirely orange/red. I haven't learned yet to distinguish between larvae of most pyrochroid species, so I can't say if they're related.
