Moth - Olethreutes

Moth - Olethreutes
Meadows 1/2 mile north of Westwood - Elevation 5150', Lassen County, California, USA
May 29, 2009
Size: Forewing length 10mm
ID to genus confirmed by BOLD Systems via DNA. A species match was not made.

Same species as this specimen:

2835 – Olethreutes galaxana?
Any update from BOLD?

Along with Olethreutes galaxana Kearfott described a new species, O. glitranana, here, which seems to be at least partially a good match. The two species were subsequently synonymized by Heinrich here. There are similar BOLD images under galaxana here.

Thank you Steve for your input for this moth. Well I ran the DNA sequence through the BOLD ID Engine again on 12Aug2015. The BOLD result was still no species match. The nearest species match was Olethreutes sordidana at a 97.35 % match. The next nearest DNA match was Olethreutes galaxana at a 97.24 % match. Both species have similar images at BOLD.

Makes sense, sordidana was my second guess because the descriptions mention the red as being for that species but some BOLD images of galaxana have the same red. Seems like this may eventually be described as a new species. If so, congratulations if yours is the first.
