Horned Passalus - Odontotaenius disjunctus

Horned Passalus - Odontotaenius disjunctus
Ozark Mountains, Searcy County, Arkansas, USA
May 25, 2006
Size: 35mm
Found two of these the same late afternoon about 40 feet apart, both just roaming in the mulch on garden beds. One of them I rescued from the attentions of a very interested dog that was probably attracted to the beetle by the "rubbing together" sort of sound it was making.
