Beautiful Moth - Apantesis carlotta-nais-phalerata-vittata

Beautiful Moth - Apantesis carlotta-nais-phalerata-vittata
Shelby Forest, Shelby County, Tennessee, USA
September 22, 2011
Size: one inch
I found this beautiful sphinx-like moth resting on the door in the early morning. I have only seen this kind once before. The house is in the hardwood bottomland forest near the MS river.

Apentesis
Apentesis species are all variable, and unfortunately they're often impossible to distinguish without seeing the hindwings...

Maybe??
Species Apantesis phalerata - Harnessed Tiger Moth - Hodges#8169 (see here: (1)

Great fit
The photos of Apantesis phalerata sure do look like the moth that I observed.
However, what about the Apantesis nais? The wing pattern of my specimen seems to resemble that of nais in photos here.

Thanks for your valuable input, Jim.
