Images dark
This may be a johnsoni, but we need more images to confirm. We need to be able to clearly see the palps to know if this is a female or a subadult male. Also, we need to see the venter, or underside of the abdomen, to help distinguish the species. Take images in a clear glass or container to photograph the ventral side of the spider. If you still have this spider, could you get these images?

Upon farther review and resea
Upon farther review and research it does appear to be a submale. Unfortunately I let the little fella go. I’ve never seen one like that before so I won’t be able to get a picture of his underside.
Thx anyway.

P. borealis
This has to be P. borealis. An adult male P. johnsoni does not have these markings. From the original three images, I could not see that this was an adult male.
