Halctid? - Lasioglossum - female

Halctid? - Lasioglossum - Female
Fairfield, Wayne County, Illinois, USA
June 14, 2006
Size: 2 mm
These little gals are all over the sumac blossoms. Distinctive because of the scopa(sp?) being so visible. The frequently hop over to a leaf, though, and chaff it with their jaws. You can see the results in the image. Any idea what that behavior is about?

Halictid.
This does appear to be a halictid, but see my comments on the companion image. Easy to be confused by this particular specimen.
