Ovipositing behavior - Sympetrum vicinum - Male Female

While I shot a picture of this pair, a nearby pair flew headfirst into a reed, then the female slapped her abdomen on the surface of the pond. They repeated this behavior over and over - bump, slap, bump, slap, bump, slap - it was fascinating to watch!
