Curled into a defensive ball after being touched. Under a log in some woods.

This species is the only widely distributed one of the four
Amblyopone
in North America, and is rather abundant, if a bit cryptic, around Ithaca. They are primarily predators of geophilomorph centipedes.

Reminded me of the trapjaw ants, which shouldn't be found in New York, but maybe one of the other Ponerini.
