Silvery Springtail - Pogonognathellus dubius

Silvery Springtail - Pogonognathellus dubius
Alexandria, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
September 11, 2008
Found on my doorstep at night. Identified by Frans.

Are you sure about the date?

Yes -
That's from my EXIF data, and I keep my cameras programmed properly. :)

I was kind of surprised of the early date...
Thanks for clarifying.

Are they usually
more wintery?

Many Collembola...
are active during cold seasons, indeed. Remember that lots of them have a kind of anti-freeze blood that allows them to stay active while most other arthropods cannot even move... So then Collembola might get your attention more often. But they are active in warm seasons as well, but possibly less noticed ;-)

Those who
want to be internet stars know to appear on my doorstep, any time! ;-)
