Unknown (nocturnal?) Ant - Myrmecocystus mexicanus - female

Unknown (nocturnal?) Ant - Myrmecocystus mexicanus - Female
Ocotillo Wells SVRA, Borrego Springs, San Diego County, California, USA
October 11, 2011
Size: 5-7mm
I was outside my house at around 10 PM when this ant started crawling up my leg. This is probably the fourth time i have seem these particular ants, always at night, and the last time was in the spring or early summer of this year. If you look closely there are what look like tendrils coming off the underside of the head near the mandibles. I still have the specimen and can take pictures of specific parts of the ant if it will help with the ID.
