Black spider in New Jersey

Black spider in New Jersey
Atlantic County, New Jersey, USA
June 17, 2006
This small spider was running through the sand in the Pine Barrens.

This is probably something in the family of "running spiders," the Gnaphosidae, or a closely-related family. Also appears to be a male specimen (note the swollen pedipalps, those "boxing glove" appendages).
