Size: 2 1/2 inches
Gave me quite a scare when I opened the shutters. The web is about a 1 foot diameter but is strung all the way from floor to floor in our complex (about 10+ feet)

Moved from ID Request. I agree with A. diadematus. It does appear to have a bit of an atypical pattern.

Maybe
to record the slightly atypical pattern. But generally this species is very common.

Perfectly harmless and beneficial orb weaver
in the genus Araneus, but we don't recognize the pattern. We were going to say A. diadematus, but don't think we have seen one with two cross bars??
