A spider to ID please - Phidippus johnsoni
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
August 15, 2004
Another small spider. The red caught my eye. Is it Phidippus borealis?. A jumping spider

Jumper
It looks very similar to a Johnson's Jumper which is found all along the west coast of North america.

Moved
Moved from Phidippus borealis.

Jumping spider
Definitely a Phidippus, not sure about the species though my first guess is P. clarus, very widespread and common in the west.

BC Jumper
P clarus has not been found in Bristish Columbia I don't believe. Though maps show it in Washington state. In fact, if you find anything but johnsoni, purpuratus or borealis in BC you probably have a find of significance. P purpuratus apparently occurs in a red form in Florida. But not sure if anyone has records of a northwestern form occurring with that much red.

NW Phidippus
I suspect this is a rather nicely marked P. johnsoni.

Yes
Phidippus, but not clarus, according to Jeff Hollenbeck

Spider
Thanks Eric. Always good to here from you.
