Unknown Ant - Lasius claviger

Unknown Ant - Lasius claviger
Montrose, Laurens County, Georgia, USA
October 16, 2011
Size: around 5 mm BL
Found on creeper leaf in forested area. I am a bit puzzled by this ant. When I shot it, I was fairly certain it was a Camponotus sp., but looking closer at it on the monitor, I'm not sure what genus it belongs to. It is built quite differently from carpenter ants, in my view, but then ants are not my strong suit, to say the least. Is this just a variation on Camponotus?

Same subfamily, but different, and not closely related, genus.

Yesss, thank you, James
I checked them out a bit... quite interesting little buggers. I will keep my eyes peeled for the queens which may come out later here due to the warmer climate...
