This is one of the horse flies, family Tabanidae, and I if I'm not mistaken the subfamily is Tabaninae.

I'd even go as far as genus
Tabanus
based on not seeing any apical spurs on the hind tibia (together with the great similarity in appearance to
T. americanus
). I think the spurs'd be visible in the 2nd photo if they were there...
