Chinese Mantid nymph? - Tenodera

Chinese Mantid nymph? - Tenodera
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA
June 21, 2006
Size: About 1 inch
Found this roughly 1 inch mantis nymph on the fence in my backyard in the early afternoon. Chinese Mantids live here along with another species which is smaller and browner. I was curious to know what kind this one was. Thanks!

Chinese mantid nymph
Great pictures, Sam. If chinese mantids are in your area, I think it would probably be safe to assume that this little guy is a nymph of one. I have trouble distinguishing the Chinese mantis nymphs and the Carolina mantis nymphs though... Much easier when they grow up. :)

Thanks! I am pretty sure this
Thanks! I am pretty sure this is a Chinese mantid, but you're right when you say it's hard to tell at this age.
