Longhorned Beetles (Cerambycidae) » Larvae & pupae Green Lane, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA October 24, 2011 Size: 2-1/2" L x 3/8" W
The size made me think this may be a longhorn beetle larva, and the guide seems to show this is a reasonable guess. i measured it since it was cold and sluggish. Found in soil as I was planting flowers. Temp at 58 deg. F Partly cloudy. We live in a hardwood forest with clay soil, and it was approx. 2 to 3 inches below the surface of the soil. I have found longhorn beetles here. The color of the larva is actually more of a creamy white than the pictures show; the larva was soft and looked waxy. I returned it to the flower bed and loosely covered it with an inch or so of soil - hope it survives!
