Moving to Dasymutilla for now
Since a pit is present on the second sternite, and the angles of the last sternite look somewhat dentate, I'm leaning toward
D. vestita
. Were you able to compare the figures in the papers I sent to the specimen?

Gloriosa?
Based on the new image I took of the pygidium lacking an apical fringe of setae rather than simply dentate and the keys you sent me, I think this is D. gloriosa. We've seen a few easily recognizable females in the area in the past few years. What do you think?

Right on
This is
D. gloriosa
-- I always forget about the males of this species since females get all the attention.

I'm not sure what papers you are refering to. Did you send by email or hard copies?
