Insects hatching -
Chelymorpha cassidea
Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
June 21, 2006
Size: 1/2" eggs and insects
Spotted these eggs and hatching insects on the underside of a leaf. Can anyone id the species? (I realize the picture isn't the sharpest.) Thanks in advance.

tortoise beetle larvae
Definitely tortoise beetle (cassidine) larvae. Host plant could help with further ID.

Apparently a close relative of the one that laid these on a morning glory leaf:

Wider view of leaf?
Rusty, if you could provide a wider view of the leaf (from the uncropped original or related photos), I might be able to recognize the plant.

Chrysomelidae.
Larvae of some kind of leaf beetle in the family Chrysomelidae. Quite possibly they are tortoise beetle larvae, given the long spines on the "tail."
