I was wondering if anyone knew what this green fly was? I had found a picture winged fly(picta) in the same area a few days ago but this one is very different. Maybe a type of fruit fly?

This is indeed Rivellia sp.

Platystomatidae?
Difficult to say, but I'm leaning toward the family Platystomatidae due to the relatively vivid metallic luster on this specimen.

Yes, looks like a nice match for the Rivella. Seems that picture winged fly is a common first guess on postings of this fly. I may be wrong but at least i'm just as confused as most...
