orb weaver? female? - Larinioides cornutus - female

orb weaver? female? - Larinioides cornutus - Female
Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana, USA
November 1, 2011
Size: nickel size
I have been watching this critter for a month or so. I noticed tonight that it was bigger than it had been. It seems as though it grew overnight. Do they look noticably bigger after they molt? It has a web with lots of "goodies" in it and it only comes out right after dark and eats then goes back behind the downspout.

Perfectly harmless and beneficial orb weaver
This one is in the genus Larinioides and Lynette can probably tell you which species.

L. cornutus
Larnioides cornutus, the "Furrow Spider," would be my educated guess. Nice images.

thanks
is my guess that this is a female correct?

Female
Yes, it's a female.

Lynnette
thank you.
