Black Fly - Platypalpus

Black Fly - Platypalpus
Chicago, Illinois, USA
June 17, 2006
This fly was buzzing on my office window so I captured it in a cup to take outside. There were holes in the lid but it died by lunch time when I went to release it(only about 20 minutes!)
It has the most round head I've seen on a fly, and that velvety hair looks so soft..
