Definitely Eulonchus
This is a nice find, Scott!

The long proboscis, together with point of attachment of the antennae near middle of face, indicate this acrocerid is in the genus Eulonchus.

Also I think I see a (thinnish?) black margin along the edge of the calypter (AKA squama)...which is the whitish oval wing appendage seen above the hind leg in this image. If the black margin is really there, then that together with the black legs with white "knees", would indicate this is probably Eulonchus marginatus. That is a species which is recorded from the Santa Cruz Mountains.

I see what your referring to, and check all of my other shots, all fuzzier then these, and it 'might' be what we are seeing instead of a shadow. The best shots are the ones I already posted so nothing else to extract from my files I'm afraid.
