Luna Moth - Actias luna - male

Luna Moth - Actias luna - Male
Lakewood, Oconto County, Wisconsin, USA
June 22, 2006
It was a cool night in WI....I once again made my way to the car wash...I didn't expect to find anything, and then I found this. At first I thought it was a leaf....I couldn't believe it was a moth. I'm guessing it is a male from the fullness of the antenna. I started looking through the guide, but couldn't find it. I looked on the internet for moths and butterflies of WI, and did not see a pic of this beauty either...does anyone know what kind it is.

I've only ever seen this moth
I've only ever seen this moth once in my life and the sight of it remains fresh in your memory no matter how long ago you've seen it. I had the rare pleasure of seeing hundreds of these beautiful moths on the side of a building :-) Very nice pic, btw.

Stellar Find
You found a Luna Moth, Actias luna, one of the Giant Silkworm Moths in the family Saturniidae. Beautiful photos of it too btw. Keep it up, you never know what you might find next!
