Cymbicid Sawfly larva

Cymbicid Sawfly larva
Frederick County Watershed, Frederick County, Maryland, USA
June 17, 2006
Size: approx. 40mm
This may be on a spicebush leaf but there was no evidence it had been eating it. Couldn't find in Wagner.

Cimbicid Sawfly Larva:-)
This is the larva of a sawfly in the family Cimbicidae, perhaps genus Cimbex. The coiled defensive posture is characteristic, as well as the spiracular spots, and kind of wrinkled texture.

Thanks, Eric
I didn't know sawfly larvae could be this large.
