I agree, your katydid is a Common True Katydid (Pterophylla camellifolia), the only True Katydid found in South Carolina.

Well, it is something in the true katydid subfamily anyway, and a male it would appear. It is a nymph, but is already developing a subgenital plate (the thing that 'looks' like an ovipositor). Neat find.
