American Carrion Beetle - Necrophila americana
Pasadena, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA

Size: 20mm
Just happened to see this, as it was wandering around the yard. This is my very first bug pic and the first time I've ever seen this species.

And a fine bug pic it is!
of an unusual species! Welcome to BugGuide. Hope to see more of your finds.
We've cropped your recent posts to zoom in on the animal. It is valuable here at BugGuide to be able to see significant features of the animal even while looking at thumbnail sized images. For rapid ID, glancing through dozens of thumbnails, without opening them to see the larger image, is very efficient.
You actually probably have some kind of image manipulation software on your computer that will allow you to crop the image yourself, but we're happy to do it for you while you learn to manipulate your digital images.
Thanks again for sharing you images, and click on your name under the image and go to and edit your contributor page to tell us more about you.
